Miscellaneous Artwork

All work produced by: Carly Bozeman /Fall 2018 - Spring 2020

As an aspiring costume designer, I like to practice drawing sketches of anything I feel is helping me find my aesthetic. I like to focus my drawings mainly on non-realistic people or scenes as a form of escapism from my fairly average and cluttered life. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic creating a remote school for us to continue our work at home, I have become dormant in creating any new pieces of art. But, I hope that once things return back to, relatively, normal, I will go back to producing more work in my "free time."

La Belle Squelette ('19)

I enjoy practicing sketching in any medium I can, but a favorite form of mine is charcoal because of the amount of dimension I am able to create. La Belle Squelette was produced with pencil, pen, and charcoal. This is one of my favorite drawings, that I created Fall 2019, because once I sketching the body, I just let my imagination flow to create the rest of the piece.

Skeleton Mask ('18)

This was a fun project to partake in for one of my Costumes courses offered at Sonoma State University. We got to paper mache masks into any creature or being that we wanted (I appropriately chose a skull). The process was awesome because I have experience with paper mache, but not in the same way and technique that we utilized when creating these masks. After letting the paper dry for 24 hours, I went over the mask with off-white paint and added black to the areas I wanted to create further dimension and texture. Then, out of sculpting clay, I molded the teeth into the mouth opening I created. I decided last minute to add some glitter to the teeth!

Beam Me Up ('19)

Beam Me Up was created with simple black and colored pencils, and outlined in a black fine tip sharpie. I then used a little bit of charcoal smudging to add some shading and eeriness to the piece. I really enjoy making art that is out of this world and strays far away from realism. This is another piece created solely from imagination flowing in Fall 2019.

The Curve ('20)

As I have stated many times before, I like straying away from realism, even including when I make body sketches. Whether I'm drawing a body as a random sketch, or for a costume design, I like to exaggerate the hips and breasts a lot because I feel it is more accurately representative of women's bodies, while the extremely cinched waist is a juxtaposition of that. This was a simple freehand body sketch done with pencil and black ballpoint pen. :)
